Who We Are

About-deep-Root

Welcome to the Deep Roots Farm Foundation

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to tackling food insecurity within Black communities through sustainable agricultural practices. Our journey began with the inspirational work of Deep Roots Community Planning Solutions (CPS) Farm, an award-winning Black-owned urban agriculture enterprise. This farm has been a cornerstone, guiding our mission and shaping our values with its legacy of excellence, innovation, and commitment to community empowerment.

At the heart of our foundation lies the rich history and transformative impact of Deep Roots CPS Farm. It has not only provided nourishment but also sown seeds of empowerment and change within the Black community. Our roots are deeply entrenched in the urban agriculture legacy of the farm, setting a solid foundation for our commitment to creating a sustainable and equitable food system.

Our connections

Our connections run deep within the greater Charlotte community, forging strong bonds with chefs, growers, and members of the Black community. These relationships transcend agriculture, embodying a collaborative spirit that fuels our foundation’s efforts to enhance community welfare. We are dedicated to bridging the gap between agricultural achievements and the broader community’s well-being.

Deep Roots CPS Farm

Deep Roots CPS Farm has been a trailblazer in advocating for seed sovereignty and addressing systemic challenges within the food system. This dedication is mirrored in our efforts to confront barriers related to food accessibility, economic opportunities, and the creation of a sustainable food system for the Black community.

Community Engagement and Partnerships

Community Engagement and Partnerships are the core of our foundation. We are committed to fostering collaborative growth by engaging with chefs, growers, farms, and wellness practitioners within the Black community in Charlotte. Our approach is inclusive, action-oriented, and centered on building meaningful partnerships.

Our flagship

Our flagship Emergent Growers Initiative is a testament to our dedication to combat food insecurity. By providing resources and support, we empower Black growers and farmers to contribute to sustainable urban agriculture, offering tools for success to those initiating urban agriculture projects.

Monthly convenings

Monthly convenings play a crucial role in our mission, offering a platform for co-creating agricultural projects and sharing knowledge with area growers. This inclusive environment ensures that insights and resources are accessible to those most in need, helping to dismantle systemic barriers.

Advocacy at the center

Finally we see advocacy at the center of everything we do to help educate and influence policy that supports the building of a just food system. We are committed to addressing the root causes of food insecurity, advocating for systemic change to ensure lasting, positive transformations within the community.

Join us in our mission to nurture roots for change, fostering a sustainable and equitable future for all.
