What We Do

Emergent Growers Initiative

Support for Black Growers/Farmers

DEEP ROOTS FARM FOUNDATION (DRFF) is passionately dedicated to fostering the growth and success of Black growers and farmers through our transformative Emergent Growers Initiative. As a key component of our mission to address food insecurity and promote agricultural empowerment in the Black community, this initiative aims to provide unwavering support and essential resources. Our commitment extends to individuals aspiring to initiate urban agriculture projects, whether in the form of community gardens, church initiatives, or other urban farming endeavors. DRFF recognizes the historical significance of Black communities in agriculture, wellness practices, and various food-related businesses. However, these contributions often remain invisible due to mainstream omission. By participating in the Emergent Growers Initiative, individuals receive comprehensive support tailored to their unique needs. This includes access to educational resources, mentorship programs, and the necessary tools to navigate the challenges of starting and maintaining successful urban agriculture projects. Our goal is not only to assist in project initiation but to cultivate sustainable and thriving agricultural practices within the Black community.

These gatherings serve as dynamic platforms for individuals to come together, share experiences, and co-create innovative solutions for urban agriculture. These monthly convenings are more than just meetings; they are opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, and breaking down institutional barriers that often hinder access to crucial information and resources. What-we-do

Nutritional Education and Healthy Eating Programs

We recognize that addressing food insecurity involves more than just providing immediate relief; it requires a fundamental shift towards sustainable and healthy eating practices. Our Practical Learning Initiatives are designed to bridge the gap between the community and the source of their food, fostering a deeper understanding of nutritional values and sustainable agricultural practices. These initiatives go beyond traditional educational programs by offering hands-on experiences. Participants have the opportunity to engage directly with the cultivation process, from planting seeds to harvesting crops. By immersing the community in the agricultural journey, we empower individuals with practical knowledge about the origins of their food and the importance of sustainable farming practices. Through these initiatives, we aspire to create a ripple effect, inspiring individuals to take an active role in their food choices.
